Manatees can live 60 years, but most of them die before that. Most manatees die because of humans. Here are some reasons:</div> <div> 1. People take over their habitat </div> <div> People build houses and shopping malls and manatees have less place to live and less food to eat.</div> <div> 2. They are hurt by boats</div> <div> Boaters do not always see the manatees and they get cut by boat propellers and die</div> <div> 3. They choke on trash</div> <div> People throw fishing line, hooks, soda bottles and other garbage in the rivers and lakes and if manatees swallow these they die.</div> <div> 4. People play with manatees</div> <div> Manatees are cute and friendly, so people want to touch them and play with them. But this makes manatees think that all people are friendly.
